Santini, Cascais – EAT

Santini, Cascais

Spending the day in Cascais is a must if you’re in Lisbon for a long weekend (it’s only a 40 minute train ride away).  Not only are the beaches stunning, but the sea is crystal clear and the town itself is so pretty (I love all the tiled houses).  But there is another reason to head here: for Santini, the best ice cream in Portugal.  The family who own this has been supplying their ice cream to generations of the Royal family (since 1949).  So if it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for me.  I love their bright red and white striped interiors, and their friendly staff.  And seriously, the ice cream is phenomenal.

They have a shop in Lisbon now (in Chiado), but the queues here are immense, so I’d stick to the one in Cascais.  Then you can have ice cream on the beach.
