510 Below, Fulham

510 Below, Fulham

Hooray, there is finally an elegant, attractive cocktail bar in Fulham! This place is far removed from Fulham Broadway die-hards like Elk Bar (happy hour every hour, every day, anyone?) and Weatherspoons. In fact, it’s quite far removed from everything. And therefore also rather hard to find.

This pretty little cocktail bar with a ‘gin accent’ is hidden underneath another favourite establishment of mine, Manuka Kitchen (grab a bite to eat here afterwards, or try their fabulous brunches).

And owned by the same two guys, Joseph Antippa and Tyler Martin; Joseph is always there playing the utterly charming and endearing Argentine host, while you’ll find Tyler in the kitchen. You actually need to pass through the restaurant to access the bar.

As mentioned, the bar is small. Tiny in fact. But crammed with every gin under the sun (the display is a colourful array of bottles). Their focus is therefore mainly on gin (and their G&Ts come in those wonderful big goblets) but they do offer whisky and vodka based cocktails too. The ‘Ben and Lara’ (named after two friends of mine, who are regulars here) is a popular one with a warming and sweet Amaretto taking the edge off the Sailor Jerry.

And if you get a bit peckish, you can order a number of nibbles which are made in the kitchen upstairs (i.e too good to miss). Their chunky chips with truffle oil and parmesan salt will keep you going all night, as will their bone marrow and saffron arancini balls, or opt for a charcuterie sharing platter if you’re in a big group.

510 Below, once you find it, is instantly loveable, romantic and super laid back. It’s dark and candlelit (perfect for a date) and gin-lovers will never want to leave.
